SMS2003 OSD & WinPE2005
Just a question for all the brains out there.
Does anyone know what the SATA support in WinPE2005 is currently?
We are using SMS2003 and the Operating System Deployment pack. All has been working well for around a year. Recently we updated the SMS server to Windows 2003 R2 and SMS 2003 to SP2. In the course of resolving some network issues we upgraded to WinPE2005 over the standard OSD WinPE image.
Ever since this change our SATA based machines have has issues. We use HP dc7600 & xw4300 hardware, during the Pre-Install phase as the scripts clean the drive we recieve Delayed Write Failed errors. This doesn't effect the build process at all from what I can tell, but is still a worry. I have tried including HP's drivers in the OSD CD and also tried various options in the BIOS, but all to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
TIA.

Jabenedicic,
I would also be concerned about "Delayed Write Errors." Those are typically write cache errors, where there is data in cache that isn't getting written out to disk. This is ususally a driver issue. Try downloading the latest driver set for your motherboard from HP. The CD's supplied with the system can be months out of date.
As for SATA, it is definately a supported configuration. You have to make sure you load the driver into your custom PE build during the text mode portion. It sounds like you have this part already, but just make sure you follow the steps for adding mass storage drivers during the text mode. As a test, you can always hit F6 during the PE boot and supply a floppy with the latest SATA drivers.
And just to be sure, we aren't talking about getting the SATA drivers into your image that you are deploying. That is a separate process than just getting them into PE.

Yes we are talking about putting them into WinPE, all the drivers I need in the image are taken care of during the post install phase.
I edited the .sif file and added in the storage controllers to the textmode portion of setup, added the latest storage drivers etc. However I get an error in txtsetup.oem (currently looking to see if I can find some other drivers).
The controller has 2 options Intel AHCI Controller or Intel SATA Controller, I have added both drivers.
Guess I'll keep trying.

Hi There,
I am currently involved in a project to deploy the same Hardware (DC7600), we had spent some time with the same SATA problems, as a trial we tried loading the OS without any SATA drivers (i.e. remove all chagnes to your sif file as well) and it worked fine. Give this a go, I can get BIOS details etc. if you think it will help, one thing to check is if the new BIOS supports the "IDE Emulation" feature, I have seen this in some BIOS's lately although I have no idea what this does to performance.
