Symantec EndPoint Protection 12.1 SCCM deploy won't show installation progress
Our company is rolling out Symantec EndPoint Protection 12.1.2015.2015. Using Wise Package Studio, we've packaged and deployed several versions of SEP in the past (creating a single executable for the install), and this is the first time I've encountered this.
If we install the package manually, we can see the progress of the install, as per the qb!- parameter of the MSI command line. But if we deploy via SCCM, the progress of the install doesn't display. Since we're giving users a window of about two weeks to run the install, and since the install requires a reboot upon completion, we want users to be able to see the progress of the install.
In SCCM, we're running the program Normal (not Hidden). I've tried setting the "Program can run" field to both "Whether or not a user is logged on" and "Only when a user is logged on". I've tried selecting and deselecting "Allow users to interact with this program".
"Suppress program notifications" is NOT selected.
I've also tried creating a task sequence.
In all cases, deploying via SCCM does not display any installation progress.
Has anyone run into a similar scenario?

This might not help, but I do know with SCCM 2007 (dont think it was an R release) client, if you have other users logged on, ie in switched user mode. The progress and warnings that says an advert is going to run is only shown to the console/first logged on user and not the switched/2nd user.
Have you tested with other apps for a progress bar?

Yes. Have confirmed this works as expected with other deploys. Think we're probably going to resolve this one by using Wise Package Studio to wrap some visible progress messages around the Symantec install so that the users have a visual reminder of an install occuring. - RonW 11 years ago
