Version 3.1 (v2) is the latest official release. Version 4.0 is now available for Windows Longhorn as a beta release.

Version 3.0 was released as part of Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Version 3.0.3790.2538 was the version of the 3.0 redistributable. This is slightly higher than the XP SP2 version (3.0.3790.2180).
Windows Installer version 3.0 requires Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3.
