What is the recommended way to deploy Internet Explorer 11?

Hi

In Kace, IE11 is listed as a Software Installer package in Security with Package KB2841134.  I tried enabling that package to be deployed by the Security module but that did not work.  Then I did some searching and found that IE11 installation may require some prerequisites and it seems some people are using managed installations here to script it to install the prerequisites first then install the IE11 package all with quiet mode.  With the Security, would it be the same to enable those prerequisite packages as well?

Or would the best thing to do is to create a managed installation?  And would it be just to create a script that would quietly install the prerequisites first, then the IE11 package?

Hi,
although on a Symantec site, as far as the vbs and methodology go will work for any deployment solution...

you can enable the prereqs but would have to wait till all machines get those patches before ie11 patch would run.  There is a max number of attempts so you may have to reset that on the ie11 one prior to it running.  or you could leave that one disabled till all  the machines get the others which could take some time.  Doing it with an MI gets it all done at once. no long term planning needed

  • Thanks.. I was able to package the whole deployment into a ZIP file and make it use a VBS script to install the prerequisite packages before installing IE11, and it seems to be working well on my test machines. Earlier I left it using the Security Patching method and it never installed which I guess is due to the prerequisites having not been on the machine. - tuyen 8 years ago
