Why does K1000 only successfully ping FQDN and not hostname?
Hello,
I am trying to discover clients so I can push out the Kace agent. We do not have AD and currently running workgroup networking (I know I know.. its not my decision).
If I run ping on the K1000 (running the latest version 6.3...) for a hostname the ping fails. If I enter the fqdn for the same host the ping succeeds. The discovery on the Kace 1000 finds the pcs but not the name. It displays the hostname as unknown for the Windows pcs but a printer with the fqdn will show up.
When I do an nslookup from Kace I get this message:
;; Got SERVFAIL reply from 192.xxx.xxx.xxx, trying next server
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
I have a Ubuntu box that is able to ping by hostname without problems.
Has anyone seen this issue? The dhcp server has the Kace box as a reservation and the a records are correct, to my knowledge.

what is you DNS server setting? And does your DNS IP addresses match you Host names. The NSLookup error points to DNS issues. - jleitsch 9 years ago

Update. I found an error in the Domain settings on the Kace 1000. I corrected it and I can ping from the kace 1000 to any windows pc on the network by hostname. Kace Discovery still does not display any hostnames. - Nascar2496 9 years ago
