Adobe Help Center is a common application for several Adobe products, like Creative Suite CS2, Photoshop Elements 5 and more to come for sure.
Here is a deployment strategy for Adobe Help Center:
First note that different Adobe products ships different versions. They are backwards compatible, though, and all the newer MSIs automatically upgrades the older versions. Note, however, that if you uninstall Help Center, all help files will be deleted to.
So, here is how to manage it:
Make sure that every adobe product that uses help center installs help center from a common source, and installs the same MSI.
When you receive a new version of Help Center, do not uninstall the old one, upgrade it instead. This way, you preserve the client's help database.
Since older Adobe products won't recognize newer versions of help center, and thus won't install their help files automatically, make a seperate MSI with help file for each application. Each application's help file comes as a .zip file that you can copy into
[ProgramFilesFolder]Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Packages
To find the .zip file in question, make an admin install of the Adobe product, and then you can find the .zip file in the program directory in the admin install, for example "PhotoshopElements_5.0_en_us.zip"
This actually works in lockdown environment, even though it generates a cache in it's program files directory.
