Note
This is pretty straight forward. You can actually skip step 4 and 5.

1. Launch a clean XP image from Microsoft Virtual PC.

2. Launch InsteallShield Repackager from a network share, and follow the standard procedures to capture the software.

3. Go through the captured information and exclude information that you do not want to be part of the package.

4. Before shutting down the Virtual PC, export following keys to a file and save it to the host machine. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{416DFEDD-9F1B-4EFC-AF70-FCA891AE0251}

5. Open Standard.nic from a text editor. Add following registry keys from step 4 to the end of file.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{416DFEDD-9F1B-4EFC-AF70-FCA891AE0251}]
"RegCompany"="XXXX"
"RegOwner"="XXXXX"
"Serial"="XXXXX"

6. Open the repackager project file.

7. Compile the MSI file and test it on a clean [virtual] machine. Make sure that both installation and uninstallation work without any problems.

Note
I found this app an absolute pain to deploy through Microsoft's SMS. The 'Setup.exe' would start and stop after about 10 seconds.

Although, if I used the f2 log file option, it would work. Hmmm :-(

Eventually, I had to create a VBScript file to run from SMS that contained the following code:

Setup /s /SMS /f2"C:\%Temp%\1.txt"
Delete "C:\%Temp%\1.txt"

I used the answer file provided, customized for my needs. But couldn't get it to run (I don't have a SMS server). Just for the fun of it I tried zidxp.exe by itself, and it used the answer file, installed just fine, have one more thing to track down (the installer still prompts about shutting down other components of adobe before installing).

Adobe InDesign CS3 5.0 Update to 5.0.4 "indesign_5_0_4.exe" which unpacks to an "Install.exe" can be silently installed from command line:

Install.exe /silent

Note
This information is to package the InDesign Update 5.0.4 on itself.Depending on the method you want to use, you can always repackage it into an MSI or install silently via its switch.

Method 1.
1.Capture the exe via Install Monitoring or Snapshot. Monitoring is better. I tried and it captures only the updated files.
2.During install, create a CA to backup the files to be updated into a backup folder, and install the new MSI.
3.On removal, Create a CA at the end of the installation to restore the backup files to the original location.
4. You can however, disregard 2 and 3 if there is no necessity to uninstall.

Method 2:
1. Run install.exe /silent. You can't remove this patch. You will have to remove the whole application and reinstall to downgrade.

Hope this helps someone
