Note
I have changed the DATADIR in my package to point to c:\documents and settings\%username%\Local settings\Application data\Lotus\Notes\data

The problem is that on a few PC's the install is creating a directory named %username% while on most PC's it is installing in the user's profile. I need to push this package out to the rest of the company, but I'm worried that it wil install in the wrong location. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Found that despite INSTALLDIR pointing elsewhere, OEM MSI will always overwrite older versions if they exist. This may be a problem depending upon your migration strategy. I had to re-setup/capture to get around this. (This is MSI is too smart for its own good).

If you're looking to automate your client upgrade to Lotus Notes 6, here's what I have done to make this happen, using a Wise Installation and the Lotus Notes 6.0.2 Client MSI.

1. First, I'll back up the Notes Directory to a temporary location.

2. Then, I'll kick off the automated install with no user interaction, using the "/qa!" switch and a transform with my desired settings.

3. Finally, I'll copy the "notes.ini", "names.nsf", "bookmark.nsf" and "bookmark.ntf" files back into the c:\notes directory.

4. When the user opens Lotus Notes, everything will be transferred over, and it should open up with no problem!

If you want to install to the default Program and Data directories, enter this command from the command line:
msiexec /i "Lotus Notes 6.msi" /qn TRANSFORMS="custom.mst"

If you want to overwrite the default Program and Data directories with the ones you specify, enter this command from the command line:
msiexec /i "Lotus Notes 6.msi" /qn INSTALLDIR=C:\Test DATADIR=C:\Test\Data TRANSFORMS="custom.mst"

Note
The Notes 651 client includes the Tuner component of IS' AdminStudio product. It will create an MST via direct editing or through a response file. Very quick & easy. However, the install path still chooses to be its own.

For installation, use the following command line:

msiexec /i "Lotus Notes 6.5.1.msi" /qn TRANSFORMS="Notes651.mst"

Here's something crazy but it has worked. Download the Microsoft Office Resource kit for Office XP. Use the ORK to build a new MST (Must be the XP ORK - it doesn't work on tke ORK for Off2K3). All of the install options function properly when UPGRADING systems. Your custom install directories etc, will run and you can embed different scripts or reg-hacks if necessary. All files are carried over for the user. The only difficulty I have is a fresh install on a new box. The damn install path keeps going to C:\Lotus\Notes instead of where I want it!

Note

To change the install location of the program and the data folder, you can modify the properties field within the transform itself. There are two fields, one is "PROGDIR" and the other "DATADIR". The value of these two are what the MSI reads when it installs the files. Change this, and your problem will be resolved.
