The Maple 11 Windows installer is built on Macrovision (formerly ZeroG) InstallAnywhere 8.0 technology. It is unfortunate that this installer provides little when it comes to administrative deployment options. The organization whom I work for requires that applications be available "on demand" whenever a user wishes to install them. This means that the completely silent install provided by this installer type is unsatisfactory when it comes to deployment to the user. The main installer executable does not stay in memory while the install runs (as a legacy Installscript installer would with the /s /SMS command) but then launches several child processes. This means that a simple wrapper to display a message to the user while the install completes cannot work as there is no way to tell that the install is still occuring. It is because of this that we chose to repackage the application with AdminStudio. This allows us to deploy the application as an MSI with a reduced interface allowing for a much cleaner distribution to the user.
