When running the BlackBerry Desktop Software.msi you receive the message; "Please use Setup.exe for installation instead of BlackBerry Desktop Software.msi".
In order to install the BlackBerry Desktop Software.msi without the use of the Setup.exe, remove "RIM_MSIUsedForInstall" from the CustomAction and InstallUISequence tables.
Note: BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6.0.0 does not support silent installs via a configurable INI file as it did in previous versions.
To distribute a modified Windows Installer (.msi) file for BlackBerry Desktop Manager to the BlackBerry smartphone users without BlackBerry smartphone user interaction, add the following string to the CmdLine= parameter in the setup.ini file:
/v"INSTALLLEVEL=<install_level_ID>"
where <install_level_ID> is a BlackBerry Desktop Software configuration.
You can also add the following switch to prevent dialog boxes from appearing on the BlackBerry smartphone user's screen:
/v USEINI=setup.ini /qn
This switch permits BlackBerry smartphone users to install BlackBerry Desktop Software without using an executable (.exe) file.
The default installation directory is derived from the Windows setting for the Program Files. If the Windows setting points to C:\Program Files, no change is required. If the Windows setting does not point to C:\Program Files, the installation directory, which is a Windows installer property, can be set on the command line for the BlackBerry Desktop Manager components.
To customize the location of the BlackBerry Desktop Software, navigate to the BlackBerrysetup.exe directory in the command prompt and type:
BlackBerrySetup.exe /s /v"INSTALLDIR=C:\BB"
