30-second timeout during GPO MSI deployment?
Hello,
Here's a partial MSI log (Logging=voicewarmup) from a GPO machine-assigned deployment of Flash player 8.0.24.0 (everybody's favorite package right now, I'm sure)
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:33:45:687]: Set LastUsedSource to: \\gis-enterprise\Public\CSD\Software Distribution\.
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:33:45:687]: Set LastUsedType to: n.
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:33:45:687]: Set LastUsedIndex to: 1.
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:33:45:687]: SOURCEMGMT: Resolved source to: '\\gis-enterprise\Public\CSD\Software Distribution\'
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:33:45:703]: File will have security applied from OpCode.
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:33:46:171]: SOFTWARE RESTRICTION POLICY: Verifying package --> '\\gis-enterprise\Public\CSD\Software Distribution\flash 8.0.24.0.msi' against software restriction policy
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:33:46:171]: SOFTWARE RESTRICTION POLICY: \\gis-enterprise\Public\CSD\Software Distribution\flash 8.0.24.0.msi has a digital signature
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:34:15:270]: SOFTWARE RESTRICTION POLICY: \\gis-enterprise\Public\CSD\Software Distribution\flash 8.0.24.0.msi is permitted to run at the 'unrestricted' authorization level.
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:34:15:299]: End dialog not enabled
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:34:15:299]: Original package ==> \\gis-enterprise\Public\CSD\Software Distribution\flash 8.0.24.0.msi
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:34:15:299]: Package we're running from ==> C:\WINDOWS\Installer\102ca.msi
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:34:15:373]: APPCOMPAT: looking for appcompat database entry with ProductCode '{5E8A1B08-0FBD-4543-9646-F2C2D0D05750}'.
MSI (s) (80:A4) [14:34:15:373]: APPCOMPAT: no matching ProductCode found in database.
Note the <b>29 seconds elapsed</b> while verifying the package and/or checking it against SRP. This doesn't happen when installing other packages, including the Shockwave package, also from Macromedia. Maybe I'm just being naive here (this is one of my first GPO deployments), but isn't the 30-second timeout a little ridiculous? Can anyone shed some light on what's happening here? (yes, this happens every time)
Aha... I also found this little guy in the Application Event Log:
Event ID: 4356
Source: EventSystem
Time: 2:33:46 PM
The COM+ Event System failed to create an instance of the subscriber partition:{41E90F3E-56C1-4633-81C3-6E8BAC8BDD70}!new:{6295DF2D-35EE-11D1-8707-00C04FD93327}. CoGetObject returned HRESULT 8000401A.
The time doesn't make sense, though, because this happens at the BEGINNING of the 30-second timeout.
Thanks,
Jeremy
