adobe reader 7.0.1 install issues using wise
We are having problems with installing adobe 7.0.1 reader. We packaged this in wise as two separate packages and distributed through Marimba to Windows XP SP1 environment. It appears that in about 20 to 30% of cases the patch install does not work although the date of the reader executable is changed to the date of the patched version but the about adobe reader 7... still shows 7.0. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you get around it?[&:]

I had a similar issue where I was scripting an uninstall script for my silent install of Rdr7 and 7.0.1 update.
I'm sure you know these, but this is what I found:
A) 7.0.1 will only install after Rdr7 was successfully installed, and
B) If I uninstall Rdr7 first, the uninstall of the 7.0.1 update failed to remove the files associated with the update from the C:\ProgDir\Adobe.
Does your wise load extract the setup files to anywhere other than the C:\ProgDir\Adobe folder?

Hi Kriggs,
peart75 could be right.. if there is already existing MSI inside, why waste your time doing another MSI? YOu could just use MST to suite your needs or follow what peart75 says...
there is an MSI for AR7 if you will just check out the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Setup Files.. YOu can find it by launching AdbeRdr70_enu_full.exe. Once you are in the Welcome window of Installshield, browse through the folder above and you can find the setup files.. make a copy of this setup files for your base install.. For the AR7.0.1 update, launch the .exe update and follow the steps again above.. YOu can find the update files inside C:\Program Files\Adobe\{Product Code I think} folder and there you have the MSI for the 7.0.1 update..
If you are using Marimba (same packager and distribution tool that we have), you can either use the Custom or Windows Installer in Application Packager and include your MSI's there.. If you don't want to use them, you can also use the Shrinkwrap to capture Adobe Reader for your distribution.. HOpe this help... [:D]

Check the instructions here. I have a very nice package pushing out via GPO and SMS using the Adobe vendor MSI and my transform. All of Adobe's adware and banners removed, no automatic updates, license pre-accepted, and tuned exactly the way we want it.
