After updating the K1100: how can I suspend the Messages of the Kace Agent when a client is booting up

Alright, because I haven`t found an answer to my issue in here, I hope the answer to my question is not too simple ;-)

But here is what happened: I just updated our K1100 to the Version 5.4.70402 this morning. Right after that, every client PC that is booting up, is prompting two messages from the Kace agent, saying that this computer is getting checked etc.

How can I tell the agents to suspend those messages? I can´t remember that this was a topic of the jumpstart sessions, so I think this is nee? Correct me if I´m wrong.

I also had a look at the settings of the agent, and there is of course the text box of the agents welcome screen. But how the heck can I disable this text? Just deleting the text in this box does not do the job.......This is surely not a major problem, but some of our users freak out about it, fearing this would be a trojan horse or something, lol

Hope this is not too silly......

Just wanted to give a short feedback to this issue: after updating to 5.4.76847 everything is fine again! Thanx a lot boys and girls for helping me out :-)

Usually that message comes from a Managed Install which has the Managed Action set to Execute Before Logon or Execute After Logon. Check to see if you have any of those set on your MIs. Not sure why it would trigger after the upgrade or perhaps some coincidence...???

2 things I would do. Before scheduling any update on your K1 appliance, I would stop as may patching/managed install tasks with enough time out for the agents to check in and see that there isn't any pending task for them. The next is during the update of your appliance change the IP address just before you perform the update. This keeps the agent chatter from messing with your update. Once the KBOX is updated and back online switch back to the original static IP you used. Be aware that your agents on your workstations will probably be updated as well. Hopefully this cuts down on the chatter.

Also check any scripts that are set to run at startup. This could cause the Agent Splash Page to display as well.

At first I would right after the update is started pull off the network cable (not only changing the IP, because the DNS config may allow the agents to check in).
Then after the update update the agents too and let roll out the new agents.

The 5.4.70402 was the worst version I ever seen :( a real pia :(
It is a real good idea to move to 5.4SP1
Please be aware the system will reboot more than one time! (or better: in my case it done it 2 times, the first time the "old" version kept, after the second reboot the correct SP1 5.4.76847 were avaiable)

I also suggest to enable SSH before to enable access to the box by support if something goes wrong. I don't seen a box which had problems while updating, but better you have than you had ;)

we saw that when we enabled the agents update, check to see if you have that enabled

Okay, here we go:

1. I have got only two MIs, both are not active and both are not set to run when a client starts.

2. All patches have a suspended/deactivated user warning

3. There were a few scripts that were set to run at a computers start up. I deactivated them and we will see if things are looking better tomorrow morning.

4. @ SMal.tmcc: Our Agent´s settings are exactly as you posted .

Btw.: I would like to thank you guys, for responding that fast :-)  I just started to get into KACE, so I´m a totally newbie!

Thanks, Nico" I am downloading the Update to Version 5.4.76847 right now. After installing the 5.4.70402 I performed another check for a newer update, but it said my K1100 would already be up to date.

So, another lesson that I´ve learned is, not to trust this built in update feature and to look for updates at kace.com by myself.

  • Yeah that auto update only works if your K1 has been advertised to from Kace otherwise it will always tell you that you are up to date. You will know when your box has received that advertisement when you log in and on the home page you will see a pink box. At that point the K1 should have downloaded the update in the back ground and from there you can apply the update. Otherwise do as you indicated and manually download the update. There is also the knowledge base article that will walk you through the process of the update including some of the steps the others have posted.

  • correct. This saves the KACE Download server from going down because of many many many many many many downloads (DDOS by accident)
As usual I suggest to ask the support if you want to get a new version which is not avaiable via the box. - Nico_K 11 years ago
