application won't install again after being removed
Good evening all,
I am having an issue with an application and i am wondering if anyone can help me out.
I have captured an application in Wise Package Studio 7.0 and it seems to be working fine. Problem is when i uninstall the application and try to install it over on the same PC i am getting the following :
Fatal Error
Installation ended prematurely because of an error.
Since i am using Virtual Machine, once i revert to snapshot i can install it fine the first time, remove it and then i'll get the same error again. I checked the event viewer and i got the following:
Product: xxxx - Installation operation failed.
For more information, see Help and Support center at ...
I was trying to identify the registry keys that i think would cause the problem but so far no success.
I am wondering if anyone has seen that problem before and what would the solution for fixing it be?
Thank you all for help.

Hi Sebastian,
you need to switch on the logging functionality. Look here: http://itninja.com/question/what-is-pxe?3
Start the installation then and go to the temp folder of your profile and look for the newest file with the name MSIxxxx.log. Open it and scroll to the end. From there scroll upwards until the lines don't begin with 'Property(C/S):....' There is the important part of the logfile: Look for error messages and Return Code 3. It depends on the stage, Windows Installer was in, when the error occured. Maybe you have to scroll further upward in the file, because the error caused a rollback operation. But these are marked with 'rollback'.
An other way would be, to use 'WiLogUtl.exe' from the installer SDK. It normally displays the error right away, when you anlyse a MSI logfile.
Hope this helps a bit.
