Automated Background Packaging...

Hello everyone...

I have just gotten a request for a particular problem that will interest the packaging aficionado and connoisseur...

OK, so there's a website that has a backend bundling process in the background which automates the requests...

It works like this: The user logs in and selects a few reports to be outputted...Once he clicks next, the bunch of reports are packaged in the background (server side) with the process which involves InstallShield Package For The Web and a .VBS script...

The output is a self extracting .exe file which is portable...This file can then be sent to various parties involved and they can view the reports generated...This process has worked well for the past 6 or 7 years...

It's failing under Windows 7...

Any insight, any solutions, any help?

Thanks in advance guys...

An error log/message would help.

Zak,

which part exactly is failing? Generating the exe? Downloading the exe or executing it?

I assume when you say the reports are bundled, an installer is made in the form of an exe that will put them on the target machine in an installdir of choice, or maybe it's a viewer bundled with the reports?

Thank you guys for your expert advice and detailed breakdown of my problem...

FYI, Package for the Web does not work under Win 7...They have to use Winrar...

Thanks again guys...
