Career Change

All,
If you was looking at a career change from packaging which I have been doing for 8 odd years now what would it be? My current thinking is that I want to move into Virtualization, so VMWare ESX pretty much as I see this as being the future in data centres and it is really interesting designing entire data centres with the software.

Not sure where you live, but Sharepoint is taking over the world here. Everyone wants it, no one knows it. That's where I'd go.

Virtual crap is not much of jump especially when you get into app virtualization.

Aye but bare in mind this is ESX server not application virtualisation, rather the servers, switches and hubs etc.

ESX is a good move if it interests you, and VMWare has some certifications I believe that can help you get your foot in the door to some junior positions in that area.
Sharepoint is biggest here, but I forgot to mention MS OCS. That's gaining traction as well.

ESX is a good idea as Vmware is going nowhere. Also SANs are a strong area.

As for Sharepoint, just starting to get into it. I think MS will force so many features and added solutions onto it that people will not have a choice but to embrace it fully. A lot of reluctance where I work from high on up @ the moment.

Cheers!
