I am creating an exe but i need it to check for the version of the OS in my IF statement. XP vs Windows 7. What variable would I use?

That depends on what you're using to create the EXE, doesn't it?

WPS's default 'Windows Application' template already contains examples of the OS check.Look for 'NTVersion'.

I don't recommend using WSP generated .EXE's as unless you sign them after your .EXE will have 'Unknown Publisher' and thus trigger UAC prompt on Vista/Win7.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
