Cisco VPN Client 4.x

How do I uninstall the previous 4.x version using the msi - mst combination. My Active directory push works for new installs but I get an uninstall error on computers that have and older version.

No. I use a transform to apply my settings which works fine as long as the machine has no Cisco VPN software on it. If I run the package with an older client then it errors with "The old version has to be removed first using Add/Remove"

Dude,

Uninstalling Cisco VPN Client will require you to restart the machine. The only way to install another version on it is to trick the machine that no older version is existing...

Remove the trace of installation in the registry prior to your installation:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{Product Code}

If above keys did not work, try to research its product entry somewhere in the registry.

Hope this help..

or you can add a custom action to check if any clients are installed.. if there are then it will removed and since they had to restart for the removal of old clients to be successful then you can just add a line in you registry runonce so the installation will continue after restarting the workstation (on successful removal of old clients)

I am also in the process of installing the VPN. 4.0. Did you guys have any problems installing and running it to another systen after the installation was done? It gives me an error stating "VPN subsystem is unavailable". It tries to heal it self and then gives an error. If i shut it and open back up, it works fine but maybe due the error, it tries to self heal. Any ideas. keeping in mind when I try to uninstall it, throws me out oif the network and have to reimage the system.

All u have to do if u r using WISE, is to go to Installation Expert tab, Distribution then click on UPGRADES. there u will specify the location of the previous MSI version and WISE do the rest for u.
So during ur installation of the newer version, it will check for the older version and remove it then finish installing the newer installation.
