Creating Quick launch shortcuts
Hi ,
I have to create shortcuts in Quick launch for an application . I know that quick launch shortcuts are stored in C:\documents & settings \ %username%\Application Data \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Quick Launch folder .
My problem is that I want these quick launch shortcuts to be published to ALL USERS .
ALL USERS folder doesn't seem to have an Internet explorer folder .
Any thoughts if there is an easy or standard way of achieving this ?
Thanks in advance
Cheers ,
V

There's this thread on the Altiris forum from a while back - not exactly the same requirement as yours - but you should be able to use active setup in the same way..
Hope it helps,
Rob.

Hi,
Thanks for reply . I still can't see ..\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch folder in ALLUsers profile .
Also I tried creating this folder manually but it did not add shortcut to Quick launch . Adding a shortcut to defaultuser profile also doesnot help .
However I am able to see the new shortcut if I got to the logged in User's profile and crete a shortcut in his quick launch folder .
Cheers,

Hi Rob ,
Thanks for this link . I went through it . It's talking about using ActiveSetup . As far as I know that Activesetup key is in HKLM\Microsoft\ActiveSetup\
I have to create an entry for one of my package component in the Installed Components key .
Thing which is not getting in my head is how will this help me advertising quick launch shortcut .
The link also talks about writing a script which will copy the shortcut to the Quick launch folder of the logged in user once he logs in which is understandable.
Have you ever used active setup or can explain how does it works .

I've not had to use it yet but doesn't look too difficult - this should help: http://www.etlengineering.com/installer/activesetup.txt
As far as I know you can't advertise shortcuts to quick launch via standard MSI install - you probably saw that I'd tried on the Altiris thread [:)] so active setup seems the only way around it (i.e. advertise to start menu as normal then use active setup to copy the advertised shortcut to quick launch at logon).
Let us know how you get on...
Regards,
Rob.
