Deploying an Image with post install tasks

Hello all,

I started using the K2000 imaging for some computers as our current standard is scripted installs. I have the image already made and uploaded to the K2000. But whenever I deploy it, the post install tasks do not run. The target system just has the "Image Deployment Complete". Once I restart, the system is fine. It does still have the KACE directory on the root though. The progress log on the K2000 shows it hung as "Set Engine Run Key" . So I am not sure what is going on here. This happens for Sysprep and non-Sysprep alike.

Thanks for Reading,

Robert

  • I did find that by running "KACEEngine.exe /f" under an administrative command prompt did continue the post install tasks. The only part that wasn't applied was the computer name. - Cldstrife 9 years ago
  • Is your install set to auto login? The KACE engine only runs when a user is logged into the computer, so you need to have it auto login as an administrator to run the post-install tasks. Keep in mind that you'll need as many auto logins as reboots required by your post-install tasks. Also, remember to check the box to automatically restart the computer after image deployment, otherwise it doesn't reboot, login and run the tasks automatically. - chucksteel 9 years ago
  • Chuck, the image is from a system that would auto logon. Also when you say "check the box to automactially restart" do you mean the one shown on the imaging screen of the k2000? I've tried it both ways. - Cldstrife 9 years ago
    • Yes, when you select the image, be sure to check the box. You said the image is from a system that would auto logon, but does the unattend file still specify auto login settings? If they system is not automatically logging in after the image is applied then the unattend file is not configured to auto login. - chucksteel 9 years ago
  • Hello Chucksteel, I just got back to trying this process again. I did check the "Restart" box under imaging. The systems are auto logging in, but just show an explorer window on desktop sitting there. I do not see the normal KACE screen for the post install tasks. - Cldstrife 9 years ago
  • If the kace engine is not starting after the reboot and you can complete the process by manually starting it, you may want to verify the image is still sysprepped. https://support.software.dell.com/k2000-systems-deployment-appliance/kb/121893

note the 3.6 task will run on 3.7 - genfoch01 9 years ago
