For those performing an interactive uninstall or upgrade- it is normally okay to simply ignore these errors.
This error can occur when an expected component of an application is not present when uninstalling of an earlier version. This can be during the actual uninstall, or during the upgrade process. The solution, when this is the cause, is to uninstall the old version manually and restart the system. If the uninstall is still failing, use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
Anti-virus programs sometimes interfere with the installation process, causing the installer to hang, usually within a short time after it starts up. If you encounter this problem, and you have any type of anti-virus program installed on your computer, disable it during the installation process.
