Hi all
Hi all
Recently moved into packaging and deploying software (and OS') via SCCM/SMS and found this forum being mentioned whenever i searched for info on packaging.
Have deployed OS' for a while but quite new to packaging apps and so am using site to gain some info. I have deployed "simple" msi's through SCCM such as firefox, vlc player and Office (using MSP) but havent really had to tweak any scripts etc with installs.
I may be required to now liaise with 3rd party vendors and legacy apps and deploy their software throughout a worldwide organisation and so figure this is best place to start.
I have some experience with AdminStudio and packaing msi's, again i have been creating msi's for office, vlc player etc which tends to work but packaging legacy apps etc scares me slightly!
Having searched the forum the amount of knowledge with regards to scripting is scary! where do you guys get this info from? any tips on what to read up on with regards to command lines etc or is each application different and so have to take one at a time?
thanks
Jammin

There's plenty of stuff in the 'Package Development' forum with regards to links for newcomers. If you search for 'Phil Wilson' you'll turn up a bunch of posts with various links to web sites and other resources. Phil Wilson is the author of 'The Definitive Guide to Windows Installer', probably the best place to start as, if you have no understanding of the underlying technology, you'll struggle with the various packaging tools.
