IE7 inetres.adm issues

Hello,

I have a couple of basic questions concerning inetres.adm . I currently have on production IE6 . My goal is to deploy IE7 via a custom package made with IEAK 7 and push it via SMS.

I would like to be able to use GPO to push IE7 settings (proxy settings ect... ) . It seems far more flexible to use GPO than recreating a new profile (.ins) with IEAK.

I currently have in my OU an existing administrative template inetres.adm (among others ) . As seen on Microsoft website there is a specific package for inetres.adm concerning IE7 (admFiles_IE7.msi).

I installed this package on an XP test machine, took inetres.adm . From my domain controller I go to Administrative template and want to add this new inetres.adm file.

Question : I already have an inetres.adm . What is the best option : delete it and add the new one , rename new inetres.adm file and add it ?.

I went for option 2 (rename new inetres.adm in inetres_IE7.adm and add it from my DC in administrative template) then I got some errors messages ( error on line 12345 while processing ... ) .

As I have a limited knowledge of .adm files ( I used Registry PolicyMaker on my previous setup with IE6) any help will be greatly appreciated on how to deal with my actual inetres.adm and the new one from admFiles_IE7.msi.

Thanks in advance and thanks to appdeploy.com .

Hi,
I'm currently doing the same! Only I'm using GPO to push out IE7 rather than SMS.

I simply copied the current IE6 settings policy and created an IE7 policy I then replaced the inetres.adm with the new IE7 one this kept all the IE6 settings then allowed me to configure the IE7 only settings.

Hope that helps

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

As far I have understood it seems inetres.adm can be replaced with the newer version. I am going to test this .

Are you able to push all settings via GPO . No issues with proxy settings ? .

Regards.

We don't use any proxy settings, but nearly all of the settings we used to set in the .ins file can now be applied using the adm files.

Good Luck!
