If a service won't start...

What are you using for a debugging tool? The reason I ask is because the most I know is to make sure all the registry keys are in place and hope for the best. Do you know of a way to watch a service's API calls or get any nice low level information as to what is going on.

Well, I finally found something on the subject. MS KB824344 suggests hooking to a debugger to the process but without the source code I am not sure if I will find much that is meaningful. Anyway, I'm off to find out.

If you're packaging, it helps to look around in the vendor installation and see exactly how the registry looks. Wise (for example) doesn't always get that right in the setup capture.
