In XP My packaged app. will not install without admin rights. but did on Windows 2K
In XP my packaged app. will not install without admin rights. but did work on Windows 2K for the last 6 month. It is package with SMS. (could not get to work with Wise Studio) I have opened all the C: drive by granting Everyone Full control. Next I have opened up the entire HKLU and HKCR. I did this at the root and check the box to allow the rights to be inherited by all sub keys. (I know this is radical, but I have not been able to locate what area is causing the problem so I got out the hammer and opened the whole Key.) As expected, I did get a message in HKLM saying some keys could not be changed. My app still will not install. Note when the app is opened for the first time it does advertise. (This is a one time event. One time for the first user only.) It is during this advertising that the message comes up that the user does not have the rights to install. What could I possibly have over looked permission wise. I tried to capture the event when it does this advertisement. First to look and see what it was doing and then, in an act of desperation, I created an exe out of it to see if I could preempt the advertisement and package it. Anyone have any ideas. The program is called Lawson MS Addons. Thanks for your help

I would try and use Regmon and Filemon to monitor what it's looking for when you're getting the error..
Is this a local app or is it trying to access some information off a network drive?
You can get RegMon and FileMon from the Sysinternals site. Just Google it.
Sorry I can't really tell you anything more than the obvious but sometimes it's as simple as that.
Good Luck
