Is the existance of a cat file in an installer a guarantee that the driver is signed

Or is it possible that you might still receive prompts to enter admin credentials when plugging in a device as a normal user ?

Did you check the MSI for any 'IsAdmin' or 'Priviliged' check? I'm betting you didn't :-)

Actually Ian this question if probably the followup of this one. And the answer is no, a catalog file does not always contain a signature I believe, but a signature is always contained in a cat file. (EDIT: Actually, it's the .cat file that IS digitally signed or not)

I'm pretty sure I linked a page recently somewhere on these forums that details windows driver detection mechanisms, but I can't seem to find it anymore...
