iTunes: Change library-location BEFORE installation (in MSI with orca)?
Dear Forum-User,
I what to change the file location from the itunes-library. the standard-path is located in "my documents" and in the company the file location for my documents is relocated to a network share.
The file-location for the itunes-library must be located here --> C:/iTunes
I there any chance to change the file location BEFORE the installation? I have checked the MSI-File with "orca" but I do not found a special entry ...
Can you help me?
BR

Don't quote me but I think you'd have to walk the file '%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml' which contains what is, in effect, a back-up of the library, changing every reference to the default location (stored in the "Location" element). Then you would delete the default library database 'iTunes Library.itl'. When it starts, iTunes will rebuild the ITL file using the XML file.

I havent been able to find a way to do this without involving the user in the process. The only viable automated option I've found so far is to redirect the "My Music" directory to the desired location. The biggest issue here tho, is that it might affect other application that also use the "My Music" directory for data storage, such as previous versions of iTunes.
