K2000 imaging: "setup is installing devices" is recently extremely slow on Optiplex 9020 SFF

Imaging Optiplex 9020 small form factor PCs (which we've already done hundreds of, and will do hundreds more in upcoming months), now spends spends 4-5 hours on "setup is installing devices", moving from one percentage to another every 5 or 10 minutes.

When it is complete, it will state a need to reboot, but won't reboot itself.

After a power button shutdown and restart, the process continues on more or less as normal. All drivers install as they should, no splats and no problems on the completed imaged computer as far as I can tell.

This is using the same uploaded, sysprep'd starter image, and the same post-install tasks. The only K2000 change recently was moving from WinPE3 to WinPE4 to have access to more drivers for a new PC model we're using, but that was specifically for a KBE problem and drivers were only adjusted in \\k2000\drivers in the KBE x86 and x64 folders.

What used to be a ~1.25 hour process (these are K-images) feels like an all day event!

Has anyone else seen this issue and have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  • Same issue here, 9020AIO and 9020M. Driver feed installed and re-cached for all 3 9020 models, still the same thing. - jmmctighe 8 years ago
    • For what it's worth, this problem has not been consistent with our stock of 9020s. The latest batch of imaging has been more normal. Not sure what was going on earlier... - agibbons 8 years ago
