Software Deployment

So I want a shell script to run that does various actions depending on the name that the user inputs for the hostname (So the first issue is getting terminal to appear during the post-installation task) and it requires a few dependancies and file to do this so I have put it all together into a DMG as a shell script won't allow me to upload packages etc. Does anyone know if this is possible and 2nd are there any deployment logs on the mac when an image has been deployed so I can see what it did etc?
