K2000 Upgrade Questions

Hi all,

I think it might be the time to upgrade our k2000 appliance since Windows 8 has just been released.

We are currently running version 3.3.52857 and our console has the 3.4.54256 update ready for us to install.

What are the new features and changes of this version? and is there anything which I will need to think about before the upgrade?

And is there a guide for the upgrade?

Thanks

Mac

We recommend you enable 'ssh root login' under Settings and Maintenance | Security.  Also, reboot the K2 prior to updating the appliance, this seems to help.  Lastly, the latest version is 3.4.63129, which you can manually download from Kace website after this update is applied.

The release notes for 3.4 detail the important changes, and also include instructions on applying the upgrade.

http://downloads.kace.com/support/customer/release/K2000/3.4_L10N/K2000-ReleaseNotes-v34L10n.zip

It plugs a security hole in requiring authentication for the PETEMP and PEINST shares, allows for off-board storage, and allows you to implement the KNIT.

We upgraded to 3.4 right after purchasing our K2, it went great for us.  KNIT was a great addition, make sure you read up on this to make imaging even better: http://www.itninja.com/blog/view/wim-storage-freeing-up-space-on-your-k2000-if-you-are-using-wim-s

most likely you will have to upgrade to 3.4 before you can do 3.5 when it comes out (which is for mac 10.8 and windows 8)

3.4 also allows you to read the labels from a K1000 which can assist with deployments.  It will be under the Systems tab if you have linked your appliances.

  • This feature has been available since k2 3.3 and k1 5.2 ;)
