Max file size

Hi!

I need to add a file to my MSI project which is 3,8GB.

I think the MSI standard only allows the size of 2Gb.

Can this be changed, so I can add my file?

I don't see any KB references to a maximum file size, only file quantitiy in an MSI. What are you using to create your MSI? Are you making it a single MSI file or using external .CABs or .EXE?

I would definately recommend trying to compile the MSI with the files externaly if that has not been done.

Hi!

I'm using Wise installer editor (wise package studio).

I need to make the installation files as compact as possible, so I need to compile into 1 MSI file.

Compact, or as few files as possible? External CABs are compressed, so it could qualify as compact albeit a separate file.

I am not sure if it is such a big deal for Wise 5.x but if you are still running the 4.x version it can have issues making one large MSI file if there is allot of data and not to mention the compile times can get ridiculous.

Try Authoring a Large Package:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/msi/setup/authoring_a_large_package.asp

And see if this helps. I've tried it on a large application and it worked like a charm. Please post and let me know if it works. Good luck
