Office 2010 - Minor File Association Problem

Using the "recipe" found on softgridblog.com, I was able to successfully sequence Office 2010 Pro Plus and deploy it via SCCM to a set of test devices. So far, the only problem we have found is that when an Office document, .doc, .docx, .xls, .etc., is attached to an email, the document's assigned icon is not displayed correctly in the email. It is replaced by the default unknown file type icon. The files will open correctly, and if saved to a folder, will display the proper icon.

While this seems like a very minor problem, we need to correct it before deploying to the enterprise. Any ideas y'all might have would be greatly appreciated.

Wally

Hello,

Have you configured Windows Explorer to run as a seperate process?

Found the problem. When "cleaning up" the package, I deleted the %systemdrive%\Windows\Installer\{GUID} folder.

Office 2010 has definitely file association problem with .docx, .xlsx etc. It cannot be opened using Office 2003 version, still the most popular Office distribution is Office 2003 since its system requirement is less compared to office 2010.
Office 2010 provides facility to save file in .doc, .xls, .ppt etc that can be used easily in web environment since it is supported by by most of the web server.
Sometimes Office 2010 generates error for Internet Explorer to check whether it is a default browser, the problem can be raised due to antivirus settings. Changing the settings sometimes can solve the problem.
