Packaging DM Hummingbird 5.1 as an msi for active directory group policy deployment
We are trying to integrate DM Hummingbird 5.1 as a document management system in our office.
At present, we are using Microsoft Office 2000 and Lotus Notes 6.5 at the client workstation level.
All workstations are Windows 2000 SP-4.
We want to integrate these applications with DM Hummingbird.
My question --> Has anyone had any success building an msi package that integrates these applications with DM?
I would like to hear from any and all you have had any experience with this task.
Thanks again
John Falloon

Hi Zeke,
I have recently packaged both DM and DM/RM admin tool together for deployment. I used WISE package studio to create the MSI. I found this app to be a little tricky in that I had to cpature the registry changes a few times to get all the keys. Anyhow if your still having problems feel free to contact me at bpmorris22@hotmail.com and I will do what I can to assist.
Cheers
Ben

Thanks Ben for the reply.
This application is a real headache.
We are using AdminStudio, Masai Repackager, and Prism Deploy (I like Prism Deploy by the way).
The real obstacle seems to be the integration with our corporate email system - Lotus Notes 6.5.
We are using Office 2000. Word 2000 seems to have problems with the passive DM integration and templates in the startup folder generating errors "Commandbarpop failed".
Have you seen this type of error?

Hey Zeke,
Unfortunatly no I havent seen this error. We are having our own problems with Active Intigration into Word 2003 and causing major performance issues opening word alone or any document. An interesting point our consultants made was that %90 of their clients use active intigration so I am am starting to this not nearly as much development time has going into passive. We are looking to move to active now as there doesnt appear to be a fix in sight and really the difference to how the user uses office appears very minor. Also have you tried using InstallWatch to capture changes between your installed broken package and then a manual install over the top to catch the differences?? If you havent looked at InstallWatch I highly recommend it...
Cheers

We are using Hummingbird DM for 4 years now.
MS Word works best with Active integration and MS Excel works best with Interceptor integration.
I have tried passive integration, but that did not work very well for both MS Excel and MS Word.
Repacking the application was not easy. I tried it first with Wise Studio, but the integration with Explorer was not captured. Repacking with Adminstudio worked better.
Hummingbird also has an autodeployment tool. I tried that tool, but since it requires admin privileges to install the application or its updates I decided not to use the tool.
