Packaging Tool

Dear All,

We are planning to purchase WISE as a application packaging tool. Can you please let me know the difference between InstallShield and WISE and which is better.

Cheers..

I use Wise but I wouldn't recommend it due to lack of investment. I'd plump for AdminStudio

If you search the forum you'll find a lot of posts relating to this

Which is better, tea or coffee? Daft question, right?

Both products have trial versions. Download, play and decide for yourself.

i downloaded both and checked and found WISE more user friendly than ISCan you now see the wisdom of phrasing questions properly and imparting information fully before posting? The folks here are pretty good but clairvoyance doesn't feature particularly highly amongst many people's feature sets.i dont know much technical features in IS or WISE.How can that be? Surely you will have compiled a wish-list of features that you want (e.g. App-V support) and, during your technical evaluation, checked off those which each product has or doesn't have?

We did a lot of research on this topic and we bought AdminStudio 10 (which has InstallShield 11). I've used Wise Package Studio for many years and I love the Script Editor tool but Altiris has not updated the product in any major way for years. the Scipt Editor is pretty much the same it was 10 years ago and it does not have full x64 support. I know a tech at Altiris and I asked him if they would ever update the product and he contacted the Dev Team. They said without signing a NDA all I can know is they do plan on updating WPS in the next 18-24 months (and this was about 6 months ago) but they may never make the Script Editor tool x64 compatible due to the amount of work needed to do this.

So we now have AdminStudio which is a little overkill for what we need. We write a lot of wrappers and in InstallShield it is a PITA compared to Wise. But I am learning and have figured out about 75% of what I need to know so far...and once you know how to do something then it becomes easier. Their support is good too. I have emailed them 5 or 6 questions and they get back to me with the answer in 48 hours or less. And there are a some very cool and powerful tools within AdminStudio like the ability to convert any .MSI into a App-V ready package, that is very slick and we are already using. Wise does not have that the last time I looked.

That is my 2 cents on the subject
