Pros & cons of using the PersonalFolder pre-defined folder
Hi folks
Could anybody shed some light on the pros & cons of using the PersonalFolder pre-defined folder to copy components into for applications that need to create folders and copy stuff into ‘My Documents’. Also how would this effect the roaming profile.
Cheers

Main thing to note is that your installation will need to self-repair for each user. This means that you the original source MSI (complete with cabs) will be required at runtime - unless you take precautions to avoid this.
Remember to set ALLUSERS=1 and to use an HKCU keypath for all user-specific components. Running your ICE validations wouldn't hurt either (to check for user and machine resources in the same component for example).
If "My Documents" roams (not redirected), then it may slow down the logon process (depending on the volume).
Also remember that "My Documents" is not the only sub-folder of the user-profile. In many cases "Application Data" or "Local Settings\Application Data" might be more appropriate.
Hope this helps.
