Purchasing repacking software - advice?

We're working on upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 x64. We currently have a license for Wise Package Studio but it doesn't seem to support either Windows 7 or the 64 bit OS. If you were to buy a replacement packaging software would you go with Flexera AdminStudio or Wise Package Studio or something else entirely?

We are long term users of WPS here, and I think it's a great product and we've built a very good robust process with it. But to be honest Altiris dont seem that interested in developing the product to support Windows 7/windows installer engine 5 or 64 bit.

So if we were undertaking a migration I think I'd plump for Flexara Admin Studio. It also seems to have some of the AppDNA type tools in there that help you analyse your apps for windows 7 suitability

The above is a boilerplate for my response, too. We waited far too long for WPS 7 SP4 (sorry, WPS 8...) and, from what I've heard about the WPS development "team" at Altiris, it won't get any better for subsequent releases, in spite of the positive noise coming from the marketing dweebs.

Yep - even trusty old wise.com which was STILL promoting 7 recently - has now changed to an eyesore Symantec page.

AdminStudio is looking more attractive by the day, altough don't be sold based on the build App-V convertsion tools (you don't even mention it so I guess it's a moot point for you) as I heard they dont work too well... This webcast demos the App-V conversion but only for a package with a single .exe - I understand you get quite different (poor) results with real world packages... would be interested to hear about any experiences though [8|]

Cheers,
Rob.

I am working on Wise Package Studio from quite a long time and it looks good till WPS 7 SP2, as said above I dint find any major changes in WPS 8.0
Of coz, I have a very little hands-on Admin Studio and cant comment on it.

Haven't you all learned that when Symantec buys a good (or almost good) application/vendor then it's time to look for a new application.

I made the move from WPS to Adminstudio - its Win7 capabilities for creating packages are good, and Im looking at Changebase for bulk app compat and remediation. Also moved to be able to package for AppV

@MSIPackager - I've tried Adminstudio for AppV creation. It bulk converts MSI to SFT - fails on several custom actions, but im finding its good for about half of my apps(the rest need fixing up in Installshield first, or some need sequencing). Its not perfect but it's saved me a ton a sequencing, so Id recommend at least taking a look.
