Question about setup of wise sharepoint

When setting up a wise sharepoint on a server, is it necessary that the wise sharepoint is in the same domain or that there is a trust between the 2 domains ?

We do have network access to the domain where the wise sharepoint is located but the domains are different and there is no trust between them.

Is the only option to either create a trust or to add the wise share point server and the sql server in the same domain as the client pc's.

I'm no MSCE but I think two domains which don't trust each other have no means of communication, making for a client/server relationship which would be somewhat sub-optimal.
