QuickTest Professional 11.00

Anyone package or at least get the silent install to work for QuickTest Professional 11.00? It keeps failing on the license server and I am sure its because it is selecting the wrong license option and I can't figure out how to customize the installer.

Hi Jeff,

I have packaged 10.0 version. I have created mst for it and i have captured the license part. Actually we had a server to which it will connect and get the license. I have captured that part and included the registries.

Ya, same thing here, but when I go through the install, the default settings would not match our server. The other instructions about using the envrinment variable proved useless and were missing additional instruction. Your idea sounds good so I'll give it a try.

Thanks

Hi Naveen,

I don't suppose you recall where I can find the licensing part? I tried procmon and performing a capture and wasn't able to decisively locate it.

FYI, I have a ticket open with HP to discuss the silent install procedure seeing as their instructions appear incomplete.

Hi Jeff,

Sorry I was on vacation all these days so could not reply you back. I suppose you would have got the solution by now.

If you still dint get the solution please let me know, I have to look at the backup copy to know what i have done exacltly (bad memory [:(], but the outline is capturing that part). I will check it and try to help you.

Thanks, I would appreciate that. It appears that HP tech support has never tried to follow thier documentation to perform a silent install or they would have a solution for me by now.

Hi Jeff,

I have looked into the package i have done. The captured part i have created it as an another msi and included that in the wrapper.

Actually in 10 version after the instaaltion of QTP the license part is installed with a batch file. There will be a custom action in the msi as below

Call DLL From Installation - Execute_TARGETDIR__RUN_1_AFTER_1_FINISH.BAT

This is installing the license part of the application. I have removed that custom action from the mst and captured that installation.

The registry i got captured is

HKCU\Environmet - LSHOST x.x.x.x.x(value) and 3 appids in HKCR.

I also got an environment variable in the capture LSHOST x.x.x.x.x

When shortcut is launched it will connect to that ipaddress and get the license.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks, yes it does. I've been looking at using those environmental variables, but have had no luck so far. I'll try what you suggested. Sounds like a good idea.

FYI, HP opened an Enhancement Request to correct the instructions in thier silent install documents. [&:]
