repackage
I have been in IT for a while, but am new to the msi arena. I want to repackage a .exe application, RealVNC, that will install and configure without any user interaction other than executing the install. What tool can I use? A free shareware tool would be great. Any feedback is much appreciated.

This should really be in the package development section, but I'll answer here :)
The free tool I use when I have to repackage is Wininstall LE.
Available here http://www.softpile.com/Utilities/Miscellaneous/Download_16745_1.html
I think I used it to repackage UltraVNC a while ago, and it seemed to work pretty well.

If you intend to do MSI repackaging on a lot of applications you should use Wise Package Studio or Macrovision AdminStudio. WinINSTALL LE do not contain logic for mergemodules (standard redistributables) and do not handle software conflicts.
On the other hand both Package Studio and AdminStudio costs money, but if you intend to do repackaging in a project intended to do software automation, WinINSTALL LE is not the "best" choice.
