Roxio Creator Plus Dell Edition
Hi all,
http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=4195&st=0&p=21945entry21945
I am experiencing the problem documented on the above page. I have tried the patch and it works, so now I want to convert it to MSI so I can push it out via Microsoft SMS. I have Wise Package Studio.
I only have 10 days packaging experience, which was about 2 months ago and I have forgotten a lot of it. If the more experienced packagers out there could offer any advice I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
Regards,
Matt

Why do you want to make it an MSI? SMS can deploy exe files. Do you not know how to make it run silently and want to repackage for that reason?
If you want to repackage it then you may need to capture the installation with Wise. If the patch does something simple like update a few files and a reg key then you can just throw those items into a wisescript install (exe) and use that. Let us know a little more about the reasoning and we can help.
For capturing you can usually just walk through the wizard. Make sure you have a prestine system. Go ahead and install Roxio without the patch. Install the Wise Client. The choose setupcapture in Wise to start the wizard. Choose msi or exe output and then just choose next until you get to the screen about launching the software. Install the patch, then finish the capture. The result should be either a wise script or wsi file. Compile it and your done.
Now of course there are more options along the way but that is the quick and dirty of it.

Hi yarborg,
Thanks for your reply. I wish to make it an MSI as that is the standard for our organisation. Once converted I know how to run it silently with the msiexec switches.
I'm fairly sure the patch will be simple (a few files and registry entries). Had a limited play with setupcapture last week, but it wasn't working how I remembered it. I will have another go with the wizard on my Virtual PC install. It's clean as I never save the changes.
Thanks for your help. I will let you know how I go.

Matt

on a related note- i've found the roxio forums to be helpful. also roxio just announced today they launched creator 10.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
