Sequencing SAS 9.4 for App-V
Hello
I was wondering if anyone has managed to Sequence SAS for App-V
I have had a quick blast but the program is quite large and seemed to run out of resources in the install
We are attempting to use App-V because of the licencing requirements with SAS and APP-V gives us better control than just deploying it Via SCCM
Hope someone has an answer

Hi CoreyShelton,
may the Recipe for Sequencing 64 bit SAS Foundation (9.2) give you a hint.
Step 3 is perhaps important for the 9.4 version, too.

4 GB limitation. We tried and got to do silent install/capture. even you can split the modules and package them individually using sequencing if you want as the base would come around 2 GB and some of the modules should not exceed that.

The 4GB limitation only applies to Softgrid. As per the above comment, with App-V, the maximum cache limit is raised to 64GB. - Rashmika 12 years ago

I don't think you can or should I say it depends on what features of the SAS Suite you're installing. An AppV Package can't be over 4GB in size and if you do squeeze it under 4GB, good luck importing it in the Editor. Might take a while to load.

This is not true for App-V, it WAS true for Softgrid though. With App-V or Softgrid, you cannot deploy a package where the SFT is larger than the client cache. However with App-V, the client cache can go up to 64GB. - Rashmika 12 years ago

I packaged SAS 9.3 using a VBS installer, I never went on AppV due to many different technical aspects between functionality and integration with many modules this company has, including home made applications developed that uses SAS. Example of this is using SSH application with a specific settings that needs to be set for every user with some ports assigned for them, so doing this in AppV is impossible to customize it and/or to troubleshoot it. So, the man work force in this company that provides user support are not ready yet to provide high-end support with AppV applications like this. Many decisions has been made to keep this as simple as possible for the support teams and also for the users. And we ended doing a Windows image with SAS 9.3 already installed, so we have totally improved our SAS deployment for a 9.5Gb application to have this solution 100% functional directly on the image. So no more dealing with SCCM Client cache size or Disk Space available any more. This solution gave us a 100% deployments done and functional to every user. If you ask me for the licensing? well that's another case to talk about.
