Sequencing SQL Server 2005 Admin Tools
I am pounding the streets for information because I have a client who is having issues sequencing this application. Apparently there is an issue with communication to the MSDTC service. Has anyone tried to sequence this application? Any success or failure stories you wish to share.

Hi There,
Me too was trying to sequence SQL server 2005 (Tools) and stuck with a bunch load of errors![:@]
I tried using softgrid sequencer 4.0.0.571 and did a VFS sequence.
Problem I am facing currently is the "Microsoft Visual Studio 2005" ( installed as one of the components) errors out saying
license is not correct, please do a reinstall.
Were u faced this sort of challenge? Did u manage to sequence it dude ![8|]

Thanks for an instant response angelD
But I have not launched any shortcuts during the sequencing face due to the same reason. Hence "Visual studio 2005" shortcut took a hell a lot of time while launching also.
Probably there are hard code dependencies or application cannot from Q:\ etc .. not sure
What method would you suggest me in debugging it. Were u/ anyone successfull in virtualising this "SQL sever 2005" software.
Currently running out of gas on this one and our client wants a weekend deployment for this. If nothing goes right i need to silent setup it ( MSI/EXE) via our deployment tool [:(]

Just an update on sequencing "SQL Server 2005". It cannot be be sequence via Microsoft softgrid !
Apparently SQL Server when it installs creates machine specific license registries under
HKCR\CLSID\Licenses\{some GUID}.
It generates 4 such entries. If u try deleting them and create a sequence and launch it , the "Visual Studio 2005" shortcut goes for a "configuring for the first the user ...etc ..".
Then it launches the app and loads the app completely , but at the end says " Failed to validate license,Please reinstall the application".
I have read it in some microsoft blogs that there are some custom actions ( specifically in "sqlboot.dll") which manage these license stuff before launching and this the main culprit!
Microsoft has complicated this setup with this licensing stuff(such a crap). Reading more of the blogs , I found that many users faced these issues even with normal install/upgrades and maintaince etc ..
After my expercience to sequence this application, I sincerely and truely believe, sequencing is just an additional performance saving scheme and works fine if the application sequencing comes off ! Softgrid cannot be a COMPLETE DEPLOYMENT SOLUTION( atleast for the next year or so) in large corporate organisations. I guess, still MSI rulzes !!!

It's probably not the answer you're looking for, but I have the following from MS: (on 23/02/07)
"The current revision of Visual Studio 2005 (and as a result SQL 2005 Client Tools) cannot be virtualized at this time.
The next revision of the SoftGrid (estimated release 2nd or 3rd quarter CY 2007) will address issue."
