software deployment
Hi, I'm trying to test software deployment with Microsoft Lync (new version of OCS).
The problem i seem to have is that in the inventory section the Kace is detecting both the 32bit and 64bit versions of the software as the same item as the version number is the same, though they both came from different installers. Whilst this makes sense most of the time for inventory and licensing purposes, it means that i can only upload one file against that software title
What is the best way for me to create sepearate installs for the 32bit exe (selecting only 32 bit OS) and 64bit exe (selecting only 64 bit OS) for the same software title/version?
I originally deployed the software via group policy and added both extracted msi's to a GPO and used the check box to stop the 32bit version being installed onto the 64bit machines as well as the 64bit version.
It's not the end of the world for this particular product if i deploy the 32bit version to 64bit machines, but obviously for some titles that could be a real problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

If your trying to track the 32bit and 64bit individually you can use custom inventory rules and upload the installers separately.
If all you care about is getting the software installed, i would upload both installers and an install script (all in a zip file).
The install script would have the logic to determine what installer to use.
Nice thing about this is you can just call that one script to install it on your machines.
