Temporary Location

Msi engine creates a duplicate installer package (something like some_number.msi e.g. 21637.msi in %TEMP% location), but where does MSI engine extract files before installation? If it doesn't extract files to temporary location, does it directly extracts CAB at TARGETDIR???

Milind,

actually those random name MSIs get created in the C:\Windows\Installer folder. These MSIs contain all the installation intelligence but not the files that belong to it.
During installation, installations should be extracted to the TEMP folder or the APPDATA folder

...unless it's installing from an Administrative Installation Point, in which case it reads files directly from the AIP.
