Forgive me, but asking that question says to me that you really ought to a) read Phil Wilson's 'The Definitive Guide to Windows Installer' and b) invest in a more user-friendly authoring tool.
What you want to do is painful enough for someone who knows their way around the MSI tables but for a beginner...
For starters, we'll presume you want to add a Custom Action? That means you need to touch the CustomAction table and one of the execution tables. Do you know how to add the various attributes to trigger, say, synchronous versus asynchronous execution? Thought not.
I won't go on, as I simply don't have the time it would take to enumerate the steps required: I have paid work to do.
If your employer is too cheap to spring for Wise or InstallShield, they clearly have no concept of the term "business benefit."
