I'm having trouble virtualizing the ActiveX plugins from http://www.samsungfocus.com with IE8.

I used this as a guide:

http://blogs.vmware.com/thinapp/2009/05/internet-explorer-plugins.html

Simply won't work, however. After capture and build, when I test launch on a new machine the plugins (addons) are not loaded in IE and the website still prompts for installation. But as far as I can tell all the registry settings and files are there in the virtual bubble (I checked with registry and cmd.exe entry points).

It's as if the capture is missing something, because when I run the addon installation via the virtualized bubble it works afterwords until I clear out the sandbox again.

And tips?

Dreyer,

It sounds like you are removing the AppCompatFlags folder in C:\Windows. I am also a TA packager and we've done about 60 some apps. Also, you will want to include ACT 5.6 (if using Win7 with UAC turned on) and pre-shim your app or at least run it through SUA to get an idea of what may break.

Figured it out, the Thinapp capture did not pick up these settings for some reason:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{52CE0C12-60BF-4E4D-8645-61524C3C6D5D}\iexplore\AllowedDomains\samsungfocus.com

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{5441F297-BB6C-4D6C-9E05-4FD14D96B605}\iexplore\AllowedDomains\samsungfocus.com

I've been working with thinapp for the last year or so and succesfully thinapp'd office 2003, 2007 & various other in house applications. I've been using and App-v'd version of office 2010 pro using the App-v deployment kit with no problems but I'm now having issues with this working with thinapp.

I've followed the vmware guides and it works fine first time until the users log off (we use roaming profiles). When they log back on and launch a office 2010 component it tries to install the licencing tools and fails. I re-packaged it after adding delete sandbox on exit and excluded the %appdata%\thinstall folder from roaming profiles but the problem still exists. If I repair the app-v office 2010 deployment tool it works again until they log off.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Can mmc.exe plugins be ThinApp'd on Win7 x64? I can't seem to get mmc.exe to see the virtual file system. It works fine on Win XP. Specifically I've captured MS SCCM Config Mngr Console 2007R3. I've only packaged a few apps in ThinApp 4.6 so far. I tested mmc.exe in some other working apps on Win7, but none allow mmc.exe to see any virtual files. MMC.exe seems to also work OK in AppV on Win7 x64.

Thanks,

Lance

I have been virtualizing many of our windows applications with App-V and Thinapp.

I'm looking to present these applications to managed and non-managed devices throughout our network. Is there a technology out there that would allow me to present available applications through a web browser dashboard or something similar? I would also like to have this clientless so no intrusion happens on the client. Similar to an iTunes scenario.

Does this exist out there?

You can set overall registry isolation in the [Isolation]-section

e.g.
[Isolation]
RegistryIsolationMode=WriteCopy

For removal of older versions (MSI) of applications I would use the default deployment tool you use.

Thinapp itself is not a deployment tool so you will need a 3th party deployment tool.

what do you mean eclipse project or java project ?

For batch file ,you can take the entries in the batch file and create the commandline="batch file" ... in package.ini file.

Take the upgrade code from older version from package.ini file and use it in the newer version. It will upgrade the older version.
