Note
This registry entry will disable both the registration and updater options in the help menu. I've tested this as part of the install and the registration dialog still comes up the first time, and both options are enabled on first launch. After first launch however, this issue is resolved. I didn't include those registration files in the install so that may have caused the issue.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Captivate\3]
"Enterprise"=dword:00000001

Note

In the same line of thought as Davi, to disable update delete the file c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate\AdobeUpdater.dll.

Command Line
Edit the setup.ini that is included in the unzipped file directory. Add your msi command lines (including the serial number property) to the [Startup] section. Here is an example:

CmdLine=/passive /lv c:\logdir\logfilename.log SERIALNUMBER=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx AgreeToLicense=yes REBOOT=No

By passing the serial number in the command line, you do not have to capture and install the COMMONFILESFOLDER\Adobe\Adobe PCD\cache\cache.db file (as explained in the "Notes" section below).

Command Line
To clarify the command lines even further because the earlier entry did confuse me, here's a bit more information:

path of setup.exe /s /v"/qn /L*v MSIInstallLog.txt USERNAME=\"John Doe\" COMPANYNAME=\"Adobe Systems\" SERIALNUMBER=\"123456789012345678901234\" INSTALLDIR=\"C:\Program Files\Adobe\InCopy CS2\""

Here's the link to the article the I got this information from - http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=325175&sliceId=1 - yes, this is regarding InCopy but.... the same instructions work on Adobe Captivate 3. Just plug-in the data for Captivate 3 and it works. Also, the steps on how to suppress the registration and updater works. I used this on a script to package Adobe Captive 3 that also included a transform - you can add that also to the command line I provided above.

Note
I had a problem, Captivate 3 activation would not recognize our key upon installation. Adobe Support pointed me to the clean.exe utility which was usefull.

Basically, I had to remove all Adobe software (using Clean Script and Cleanup Utility options of clean.exe) prior to installing Captivate 3. It worked.

Note

We use Marimba for distribution around here. Because I didnÂ’t want to download 500 Megs to each workstation that was using Captivate using the Administrative files for the distribution. Our packaging tool is Wise Studio. Something odd is going on with the Wise transform process. Doing a transform seems to fail with out making any changes. Investigating the source of the failure was Install Shield scripting. There is a extra table in the MSI called ISSetupFile, which I suppose is the new way to install the scripting engine. Anyway seemed that a transform created with Wise would fail trying to install one of the dlls in that table. I ended up creating a small MSI with the two registration info files and installed it after the main install.

Note
For Captivate 4, rename the registration.dll which will suppress the "Registration Your Software" window when the application is launched.

REM Disables registration prompts
RENAME "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 4\registration.dll" registration.dl_

Creating the DWORD registry key "Enterprise" and setting the value to one (1) does not appear to make a difference for Adobe Captivate 4 as it did in Captivate 3.

Note
Execute Adobe_Captivate_3_WWE.exe to extract msi and associated data files.

Run an admin install on the captivate_installer.msi to reveal the installation files.

Licensing and Registration Dialog:
-install Captivate 3 and start the application.
-start whatever setup capture you use before you enter the license key. After the initial snapshot, enter your license key and select "don't register' at the registration dialog. Continue with the initial start of Captivate.
-restart your setup capture and execute the second snapshot of your machine.

The snapshot will note the following files...include them in your installation to avoid the display of the license key dialog and the registration dialog.

COMMONAPPDATAFOLDER\FLEXnet\adobe_xxxxxxxx_tsf.data
COMMONFILESFOLDER\Adobe\Adobe PCD\cache\cache.db
