The Dell update Inventory and Update schedules is unable to detect a system that does not have the Dell Open Manage Client Instrumentation software is installed on the system. The client Instrumentation software can only be installed on a Dell system with a service tag number ion the BIOS. The software cannot be used on VMâ€™s or non-Dell systems.

The Dell Update feature of the K1000 only requires the K1000 agent to be installed on a supported Dell platform. Once the agent is installed and it is checking into the K1000 the client is ready to go. On the K1000 side go to the System Org, K1000 Settings, Control Panel and click "Dell Client and Server Update Settings". Click edit and then "refresh catalog now". When this task is completed you can scan your Dell systems for out dated drivers/BIOS/firmware and install them.
The Dell Open Manage Client Instrumentation software is another useful tool for managing your system locally but it does not communicate with the K1000. - dmaximoff 12 years ago
