Authentication errors on K1000 console

I am receiving a variety of security messages on the K1000 console.  Some examples "maximum authentication attempts exceeded error for root" from various public IP addresses; "PAM authentication error for illegal user ubnt" from various public IP addresses; "maximum authentication attempts exceeded for admin" from various public IP addresses.

My worry of course is that someone is attempting to hack the K1000.  I've changed the admin password but am wondering if this is indeed a hack, and if so, what other precautions should I take?

  • Honestly, anything that is public facing is going slammed for junk passwords. If this is a big worry for you, you may want to look at making the K1000 only available from inside the network. - Desktop Jockey 7 years ago
  • I looked at some of the IP addresses and they were overseas, so I'm blocking foreign IPs at the firewall. I can't limit it to internal PCs but will keep a tight control on the admin password. Hopefully there aren't any backdoors to the K1000! - louismcc 7 years ago
