Beginning to learn
I have been handed a K1000 system at work which looks like it has been unmaintained for several years. I am beginning to get myself familiar with the system. I have a couple of questions that I cannot seem to find clear answers to at this point:
1. I gather that one is required to purchase individual licenses for each agent in use. IIRC, while clicking through and getting familiar with the interface, I saw in a dialog box somewhere a number that told how many licenses we had. I have since returned, and I cannot seem to find that information again. The system has been updated to the 5.1 version. Where do I go to find out how many licenses I have total, and also how many I have available?
2. Where can I find documentation regarding agent deployment and license requirements? From word of mouth, I have gathered that the people who have tried to fiddle (and yes, that is a technical term) with the system have "run out of licenses." Then they couldn't figure out how to proceed from there, and they just gave up, of course deeming the K1000 as at fault. I do not feel this is a fair accusation. I believe the difficulty is administration issues (i.e. people not knowing what they are doing/being unwilling to educate themselves accordingly).
3. From what little information I have been able to discover at this point, I am beginning to conclude that a license is "consumed" when I deploy an agent to a machine. If the machine is decommissioned without having had the agent explicitly deinstalled I would presume that the license stays committed due to the fact that the server still retains records in its database regarding said machine, even though it is MIA at this point. Is my viewpoint correct here? If so, if I simply delete said system from the MIA list, will this free up said license to be used on another machine?
I may be seeing this whole situation incorrectly, I realize, but as we stand right now, it looks like all of the licenses are tied up and therefore nobody can do anything with the system.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

1. The max node count is under settings-> server maintenance -> license key -> ? (click on the ?)
2. The admin guide talks about provisioning. There is also this faq for GPO deployment: http://www.kace.com/support/kb/index.php?action=artikel&cat=2&id=848&artlang=en
3. A license is consumed by a machine in computer inventory. Each machine should only have one record -- or something is wrong. Also, if a machine is old (and disconnected) that's still a license so you should delete obsolete entries. Some customers will copy the important details of old machines into an asset record and delete the computer inventory record
